The
Yeshiva Elementary School is an independent day school for girls
and boys. The School was founded in 1977 by a group of families
dedicated to excellence in Judaic studies as well as a serious commitment
to secular intellectual disciplines coupled with a genuine concern
for Klal Yisroel. These families were also determined to
see that learning be a joyful and positive experience and that teachers
be attentive and loving toward each and every child.
Yeshiva
Elementary offers a full curriculum of Judaic and General Studies.
The school consists of the Gan Preschool and
a "Beit Sefer" with grades K-8. Located in New Haven's Edgewood
Park Neighborhood, the School's home is a spacious, restored 19th
century school building with a library, gym, arts and crafts space,
science and language labs and a grassy, outdoor playground.
Classes
come to life in a warm, friendly atmosphere, further enhanced
by a small, family-like setting. Children learn together, and
are encouraged to discover the world around them as well as their
individual interests. Yeshiva Elementary nurtures a sense of pride
in self, family, community and heritage joined with a strong sense
of Ahavas Yisroel.
The Judaic Studies
program immerses the children in religious and cultural tradition
and learning. Formal schooling, richly complemented by the ongoing
celebration of Jewish life are gently intertwined. The students
are urged to read widely, use primary sources and become fluent
in the ancient Judaic texts and at home with the Hebrew language.
The
General Studies program begins with the basic building blocks
of reading, writing and arithmetic. As these skills mature, the
program unfolds to include science, history, geography, literature
and swimming.
A
variety of extracurricular programs and activities
enhance and enrich the Yeshiva Elementary experience. Chess
tournaments, acting clubs, geography and engineering contests
all serve to spur the youngsters to explore their world.
Yeshiva
Elementary is accredited by the State of Connecticut and affiliated
with Torah Umesorah. All members of the Jewish community are welcome
at Yeshiva Elementary. Financial aid is available.
